June 5th Commencement Itinerary & more

Afternoon all,

With only 4 more sleeps I am sure everyone is getting excited about Hope Secondary Class of 2021 Celebrations.

A quick itinerary of the going-on’s this week for grads and their family:

June 2nd

ALL grad to be at HSS for noon to walk through the community parade portion of the day … after the rehearsal all grads will be assigned their gown, vee stole, cap and tassel (you have these early for family/backyard/community pictures)

June 5th

Attached is a map of the area indicating the community parade route – please share out as needed.

10:30am SHARP !!!

ALL grads arrive at HSS with their gown, vee stole, cap and tassel (maybe an umbrella – weather dependent). Grads will be directed to their spot on the side walk along 4th Ave. Last name starting with ‘A’ by 4th and King (far field corner), we will the fencing to indicate where you need to stand for the community parade/procession. We are not sure how long this community celebration portion of the commencement event will go on for so please wear comfortable shoes. We anticipate around an hour for this portion.

If it is a warm summer day, shorts and light clothing under the gown is acceptable. If we have light rain/drizzle, please bring an umbrella. If there is a heavy rain, this portion of the program will be cancelled. Please watch for an email and announcement on our website, HSS FB and Hope FB.

Mr. Janzen will be piloting the drone for parade and cap toss footage.

To capture the moments and memories, Mr. Janzen will be organizing two grade 11 students per vignette area to capture the graduate and/or family pictures and LifeTouch will have one photographer per staging area to take picture(s) of the student receiving their document(s) and/or honouring blanket. Information on how to order pictures from LifeTouch will be included in the diploma folder.

Scheduled commencement times, see below, will be on the hour and every 10 minutes.  Reminder – the group is the graduate and their party of 4 max entourage may arrive 5 minutes earlier than the commencement time slot. This time is for picture taking by the grad photo vignette backdrop; grad, grad and family member(s). If you would like to bring your own prop (funny think bubble, sun glasses, etc…), you are more than welcome to do so - no pets, please.

If you are scheduled to have your commencement in the gym, please enter via the field entrance (change rooms) and exit via south-west gym doors (band room).

If you are scheduled to have your commencement in the commons room, please enter via the secondary entrance (room 8 hallway) and exit via the main doors (office).

At your scheduled commencement time slot you and your group of 4 others will enter the commencement venue (Gym or Common’s Room). Mrs. Floyd and Mrs. Poulin are in the gym and Mr. K and Mr. Relland are in the Commons Room.  Mrs. Poulin or Mr. Relland will announce the student, any scholarship(s) and/or a First Nation Honouring blanket and administration will present a diploma folder and/or scholarship(s) and/or First Nation Honouring blanket.

Grads, if you prefer, you may have your parent/guardian ‘turn the tassel’ for you - moving the tassel from the right side to the left side of your cap.

After the presentations by administration and pictures by LifeTouch your commencement celebration is complete. We ask all grads and families to exit the school at that time so that the venue can be touch point cleaned for the next grad and family to enter.

At the exit will be a rack for grads to return their gown and vee stole. Grads keep the cap and tassel as your gift. Mr. Janzen will be compiling a digital file of the day. Each grad will receive a link to the file to share out and view.
